No All-Star Game for Sidney

Sidney Crosby has decided not to participate in the All-Star game. The Penguins' team doctor advised him not to play and to stay off skates until next week. The doctor based his recommendation on an MRI. He hopes to be back for the game Wednesday against the Rangers, but he won't know until he gets back on skates Monday how his knee has responded to the week off skates. He will be going to the All-Star game to participate in other activities like the media session that all participants must do.

We think this is a good idea. Why risk your body for a game that essentially means nothing? No disrespect towards the All-Star game, but it's not worth worsening an injury and ultimately not being available for your team. The Pens have a lot of work to do to make the playoffs and they need Crosby out there and healthy. Hopefully he rests long enough that this isn't a problem the rest of the season. Although we were looking forward to the breakaway competition to see what he would do since he has some pretty sweet skills as seen here. Although that would have all been on YouTube more than likely since we don't get Versus. The NHL sucks for putting it's stuff on Versus. Eh.

Geno will still be there for the Pens so if you get Versus, you can watch Geno in the accuracy part of the skills competition and obviously the game. You can at least tune in to see if Ovechkin wants to take runs at Geno when they're on the same team. He doesn't seem to have any common sense when it comes to that so why not? And is anyone else excited for Geno's media obligations other than us? That accent is awesome.

Couple links while we're at it:
