Pens lose to Canucks 3-1

The Pens lost to the Vancouver Canucks today 3-1. The game started out in a big way with several scrums on the ice. Cooke checked Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler, and then Cooke and Canucks winger Alex Burrows exchanged words, and then Cooke got into a fight with Canucks winger Jannik Hansen. Brooks Orpik started fighting with Burrows, while Tyler Kennedy pushed and shoved with Canucks center Ryan Kesler. After all that there were three men in each penalty box while they sorted out the penalties. Cooke and Hansen received game misconducts on top of other penalties, while Orpik and Burrows had 5 minutes for fighting and Tyler Kennedy had 2 minutes for roughing. Cooke and Hansen were done after 25 seconds of game play and Cooke was none too happy about that. He swung his stick into the wall as he went back to the locker room. The Pens were on the power play but did not cash in. Not too long after, Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo made a save but seemed to do something to his leg. He was replaced in goal by Curtis Sanford.

The Pens looked pretty flat in the first couple periods and weren't getting a whole lot done. The Canucks lead 2-0 by the third period when the Pens finally seemed to wake up. Mike Zigomanis scored a goal 22 seconds into the third period to give the Pens a boost, but that was all the closer they'd get despite a lot of chances. The Pens had the puck in the Canucks zone for a lot of the third period but just could not get the puck in the net. We give them credit for their third period furry, but the Pens need to learn to play a full 60 minutes of hockey and not 20.
